During my stint in the American University of Science and Technology in Zahle, I got involved in a student sculpture project. The premise was to create the college’s initials in large freestanding form, each with a unique look and theme.
Choosing the first letter “A”, I took upon a combination of solid wood, decorative wooden sheets and aluminum plating. The initial forms were cut from hard wood, press glued to form the base shape, then applied thin wooden sheets with decorative textures on top, along the edges of the aluminum swirls.
The final shape was painted in light magenta colors, waxed, polished and unveiled along the rest of the letters near the campus gates. The project was hit, and we got a nod from the Dean!
